Sentosa Island was previously known as Pulau Blakang Mati. After a major transformation following World War II, the island changed its name to Sentosa, meaning "peace and tranquility". Today, it is regarded as a paradise of sun, sand, and surf, bringing together many signature attractions of the Lion City.
Visitors can find tropical beaches, luxury hotels, and various entertainment and recreational spots, along with diverse shopping and dining experiences. For those planning a broader adventure, you can discover our signature Singapore & Malaysia tours which include exciting stops across the region. In 2025, Sentosa Island is set to offer visitors new and exciting experiences, including the Illumination’s Minion Land theme park.
Minion Land: The Newest Attraction
Illumination’s Minion Land is the newest zone on Sentosa Island, officially opening on February 14 at Universal Studios Singapore. Themed after the famous animated film Despicable Me, the entire area features multiple attractions, dining, and shopping options.
A standout attraction is the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem ride, featuring advanced motion simulation technology that provides incredibly realistic visuals, recreating the world of the iconic yellow characters in blue overalls. Players can explore Gru's home, transform into Minions, and enjoy fun games with the characters. You can also choose to ride the Ferris wheel for a panoramic view from above.
Minion Land consists of three zones: Minion Marketplace, Gru’s Neighbourhood, and Super Silly Fun Land. Minion Marketplace is like a miniature shopping mall with the Sweet Surrender candy store, pop culture caricatures and accessories at the Pop Store, and the Fun Store toy shop. A special Sakura Minion collection featuring exclusive accessories and stationery will also launch in March this year.
In Gru’s Neighborhood, visitors can experience the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem ride, visit Gru's laboratory, and even interact with the "despicable" family as they appear during the journey. Super Silly Fun Land offers a joyful carnival atmosphere with multiple slides, interactive games, and themed restaurants. The entire zone is open daily from 11 AM to 8 PM (subject to seasonal changes) at 8 Sentosa Gateway, Sentosa Island.
Panoramic Views from SkyHelix Sentosa
Another unique experience on Sentosa is the "flying ship" SkyHelix Sentosa. Visitors are taken up to a height of 35 meters in an open-air gondola to enjoy panoramic views of the "paradise island" and the surrounding coastline. The gondola slowly elevates and rotates for 10 minutes at the highest point.
The ideal time to experience this ride is during sunset. You can bring your own food and drinks to enjoy. The cup holders are conveniently designed for easy storage of personal items, ensuring a complete and comfortable trip.
SkyHelix Sentosa is also the island's first carbon-neutral attraction, contributing to sustainable development efforts with a low carbon footprint, equivalent to a flight from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. The attraction is open daily from 10 AM to 9 PM at 41 Imbiah Walk. Families with young children are advised to arrive early to save queuing time.
Thrills at HyperDrive Sentosa
If you enjoy thrills or have a passion for speed, you can race go-karts at the indoor HyperDrive Sentosa. The 308-meter track spans three levels with steep inclines, sharp turns, and twists, acting as tests of driving skills.
Both beginners and experienced drivers can choose between two levels: Novice (30 km/h) and Advanced (50 km/h). Novice does not require a driver's license, while Advanced requires players to have a license to ensure safety while conquering the challenging track. HyperDrive is open daily until 9 PM at 1 Sentosa Gateway.
Underwater Dining and Shopping
In addition to entertainment experiences, cuisine is also a major attraction for visitors to the "paradise island" of Sentosa. One of these is the underwater Ocean Restaurant, managed by the famous chef Olivier Bellin. Located in Resorts World Sentosa, the restaurant is renowned for its unique ambiance and premium menu. Visitors can enjoy their meals while watching diverse marine life in the giant aquarium. If you love culinary adventures in the city as well, check out our guide on historic late-night dining spots in Singapore.
Executive Chef Bellin currently owns the two-Michelin-starred restaurant L’Auberge des Glazicks. He is famous for dishes that combine modern high-end European cuisine with sustainable seafood and agricultural products. The restaurant is open daily in two time slots: 11:30 AM - 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 10:30 PM at 8 Sentosa Gateway.
If you prefer American-style BBQ in an open, nature-friendly setting, you can choose the Panamericana restaurant on the Sentosa cliff. Besides its spacious outdoor area, it also offers beautiful views directly overlooking the Singapore Strait. The restaurant is located at 27 Bukit Manis Road, Sentosa Golf Club, with various opening hours depending on the occasion. Visitors should check the information before visiting.
After dining, there is a diverse shopping experience right on the island. The Tangs store in the VivoCity shopping mall is called a "department store" because of its diverse product categories and price ranges. Visitors can find everything from international to local brands, beauty products, household items, and even premium restaurants. Tangs is open daily until 9:30 PM at 1 Harbourfront Walk.
The final recommended destination on the Sentosa discovery itinerary is the largest Lego store in Southeast Asia, located right inside Resorts World Sentosa, open daily from 10 AM to 9 PM. This is one of the rare places featuring the first Lego Mosaic Maker in the region. Additionally, visitors can find countless building sets suitable for both adults and children.
